F. But it's the wind that'll kill ya. Burr.

As for it being Melbourne's coldest June day in a decade, this particularly cold winter was inferred by reports of the coldest April in 60 years. I would just like to take this opportunity to point out that, nowhere in the Australia brochure do they advertise penguins or Winter, for that matter.

And for all keeping track, I have now experienced Australia's dust storm, legendary hail storm and now the coldest day in Melbourne in two years. What's that? The sky is falling?

MELBURNIANS are shivering their way through what is shaping as the city's coldest day in almost two years.

Not since August 21, 2008, has the city failed to reached 10C. On that day, the thermometer maxed out at a meagre 9.9C at 9am (AEST).

At noon, the temperature in Melbourne was lingering at 7.7C, only a fraction higher than the overnight temperature of 7.6C.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Michael Efron said the revised forecast maximum temperature for Melbourne on Tuesday was 10C, down from 12 degrees.

However he said even that top was unlikely.

The wind-chill made the temperature feel even lower.

"The air mass is so cold and with this cloud cover persisting there's no chance for it to warm up," Mr Efron said.

"It may struggle to get to 10C."

The bureau's website showed Melbourne airport's temperature was 7.4C at 12.45pm, but the windchill temperature was -2.4C.

At Mount Dandenong, the temperature at 12.45pm was 3.6C, but the windchill temperature was an icy -5.3C.

Mr Efron said a slow-moving cold front would keep temperatures low across Melbourne for the rest of the week.
